Manaslu trekking – 17 days

The Manaslu Trek is a well-loved trekking route, offering pure wilderness, pristine mountain views, rich culture, and genuine adventure. Opened in 1992, this area is protected by the Manaslu Conservation Area, established in 1998. Manaslu, standing at 8,163 meters (26,775 feet), is the 8th highest peak in the world. The route around Manaslu and Larkya La Trekking provides breathtaking views of Himalayan landscapes, including the Ganesh Himal Range, Annapurna, and over 45 other peaks above 6,500 meters.

 

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a newer trekking route in Nepal, offering an off-the-beaten-path experience. It gives trekkers a chance to immerse themselves in traditional Nepalese and Tibetan cultures while exploring remote Himalayan landscapes.

Situated in the central part of Nepal, on the northern side of the Gorkha district, the Manaslu region encompasses sub-tropical Himalayan foothills and extends to the trans-Himalayan high meadows bordering Tibet to the north. The region's elevation ranges from 700 meters to 8,163 meters. The eastern border is defined by the Budhi Gandaki River, while Ganesh Himal forms the western boundary.

From Larkya La Pass (5,167 meters), trekkers can enjoy the breathtaking collective majesty of the Himalayan range, featuring peaks such as Mt. Manaslu (8,163 meters), Himal Chuli (7,893 meters), Cheo Himal (6,820 meters), Ngadi Chuli (7,871 meters), and the Ganesh Himal range, including Ganesh I (7,422 meters), Ganesh II (7,118 meters), Salasungo (Ganesh III, 7,043 meters), Himlung Himal (7,126 meters), Nemjung (7,140 meters), Gyaji Kang (7,074 meters), Kang Guru (6,981 meters), and Annapurna II (7,937 meters).

The Manaslu Circuit Trek offers an opportunity to explore a lesser-known region rich with unique culture, Buddhist traditions, stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife, and remarkable views of snow-capped mountains. This trek takes you through rural villages inhabited by different ethnic groups, dense forests, river crossings, numerous suspension bridges, and the Larkya La Pass, where you can witness the majestic Mt. The annual monsoon often destroys smaller bridges, necessitating crossings over partially submerged boulders.

Best Season:
The best seasons to trek Manaslu are spring (second week to February to last week of May) and (second week of September to first week of December).


Autumn second week of September to second week of December: During these times, the weather is generally clear and dry, offering stunning views of the mountains and lush landscapes. The temperatures are also moderate, making it comfortable for trekking.

 

Spring (second week to February to first week May): Spring brings blooming flowers and vibrant colors, while autumn offers crisp air and golden foliage. Both seasons provide excellent trekking conditions and are considered peak trekking times in Nepal.

 

 

General itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1345m).  Our Airport Representative transferred to hotel by private tourist vehicle.

 

Day 02: Trekking preparation day in Kathmandu.

 

Day 03: Drive to Machha Khola (900m) by private Jeep. Walking 7:30 hours

 

Day 04: Machha Khola to Jagat (250m). Walking 6:30 hours

 

Day 05: Jagat to Deng (1860m). Walking 5:30 hours

 

Day 06: Deng to Namrung (2680m). Walking 6 hours

 

Day 07: Namrung to Shyala (2950m). Walking 6 hours

 

Day 08: Shyala to Samagompa (3517m) via Pungyen Gompa. Walking 6:30 hours

 

Day 09: Acclimatization at Samagompa.

 

Day 10: Samagompa to Samdo (3738m). Walking 6:30 hours

 

Day 11: Acclimatization at Samdo.

 

Day 12: Samdo to Dharamashala (4480m). Walking 6:30 hours

 

Day 13: Dharamashala to Bhimtang (3890m) via Larkya La pass (5167m). Walking 7:30 hours

 

Day 14: Bhimtang to Tilje (3010m).  Walking 6 hours

 

Day 15: Trek to Dharapani then drive to Kathmandu by private Jeep. Walking 2:30 hours the driving 7:30 hours.

 

Day 16: In Kathmandu.

 

Day 17: The trip ends, our Airport Representative will drop you to the Kathmandu international airport for your final flight departure from Nepal. Driving 7.5 km – 10 to 15 minutes    

 

 

Details itinerary:

Our airport representative will display a company board with your name upon your arrival. You will then be transferred to your hotel, where you'll receive a briefing on the trekking itinerary, a check of your equipment, and an introduction to your trekking staff.

 

Day 02: Trekking preparation day in Kathmandu.

 

Day 03: Drive to Machha Khola (900m) by private Jeep. Walking 7:30 hours

The drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola offers a captivating journey through diverse landscapes. As you leave the bustling city of Kathmandu, you'll descend into lush, green valleys adorned with terraced fields. The winding roads take you past picturesque villages and dense forests, giving you glimpses of rural Nepalese life.

 

As you travel further, the scenery transitions into dramatic river gorges and towering hills. The drive provides stunning views of the Ganesh Himal range and the Budhi Gandaki River, creating a sense of anticipation for the adventure that lies ahead. The ever-changing landscapes make this drive a memorable prelude to the trekking experience in the Manaslu region.

Day 04: Machha Khola to Jagat (250m). Walking 6:30 hours

As you trek from Machha Khola to Jagat, you'll be treated to a remarkable array of landscapes. The route winds through lush forests, alongside the Budhi Gandaki River. You'll pass through charming villages and terraced fields, giving you a glimpse of the local way of life. The trail also offers stunning views of towering hills and rocky gorges, enhancing the overall trekking experience in the Manaslu region.

Day 05: Jagat to Deng (1860m). Walking 5:30 hours

The trek from Jagat to Deng offers stunning scenery characterized by a mix of natural beauty and cultural charm. As you follow the trail, you'll pass through dense forests and terraced fields. The path runs alongside the Budhi Gandaki River, giving you spectacular views of its deep gorges and crystal-clear waters. Traditional villages dot the landscape, providing glimpses into the daily lives of the local people. The changing terrain, from lush greenery to rocky trails, adds to the breathtaking experience of trekking in the Manaslu region.

Day 06: Deng to Namrung (2680m). Walking 6 hours

 The trek from Deng to Namrung is filled with picturesque scenery. As you navigate the trail, you'll pass through dense forests and terraced farmlands, with the Budhi Gandaki River flowing nearby. The route offers stunning views of traditional stone houses, mani walls adorned with Buddhist prayers, and quaint villages that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region. The combination of lush greenery, towering hills, and snow-capped peaks creates a breathtaking and serene trekking experience in the Manaslu region.

Day 07: Namrung to Shyala (2950m). Walking 6 hours

The trek from Ghap to Lho is adorned with breathtaking scenery. As you traverse the trail, you'll pass through dense rhododendron and pine forests, offering a serene atmosphere. The route provides stunning views of traditional Tibetan-style villages, with their stone houses and mani walls inscribed with Buddhist prayers. You'll also encounter picturesque terraced fields and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, including glimpses of Mt. Manaslu. Day 08: Shyala to Samagompa (3517m) via Pungyen Gompa. Walking 6:30 hours
The trek from Shyala to Samagompa via Pungyen Gompa in the Manaslu region offers awe-inspiring views of majestic peaks, including Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Ngadi Chuli. Pungyen Gompa, a remote monastery located on a high plateau, provides a unique cultural experience as a serene and isolated sacred site.

This journey encompasses glacial landscapes, alpine meadows, and pastures, as well as traditional villages where you can experience the local culture and hospitality of the Tibetan-influenced communities. Your destination, Samagompa, is a picturesque village situated in a broad valley with stunning views of Manaslu. The village is a cultural hub with ancient monasteries and traditional Tibetan-style houses.

Day 09: Acclimatization at Samagompa.

Resting at Samagaon can be a delightful and culturally enriching experience. A leisurely walk around the village allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture and architecture, with traditional Tibetan-style houses and friendly locals. You can explore ancient monasteries and enjoy the scenic landscape, which offers ample opportunities for photography. Capture the breathtaking views of the mountains, the village, and the unique cultural elements.

Day 10: Samagompa to Samdo (3738m). Walking 6:30 hours
The trek from Samagompa to Samdo presents awe-inspiring scenery. As you hike, you'll traverse across high-altitude landscapes with expansive views of the Himalayas. The path is adorned with lush juniper and birch forests, enhancing the serene atmosphere. You'll encounter picturesque Tibetan-style villages, mani walls, and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The route offers stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks, including the towering Mt. Manaslu, and the surrounding glaciers. This segment of the trek beautifully combines natural splendor with cultural richness, making it an unforgettable part of your journey.

Day 11: Acclimatization at Samdo.

Resting at Samdo while trekking in the Manaslu region offers breathtaking views of majestic mountains, including Manaslu, Pangboche, and the Himalchuli range. The village itself is charming, with traditional Tibetan-style houses, providing an excellent opportunity to observe and experience the local culture and daily life of the Tibetan-influenced communities. Additionally, you can see Larkya La Glacier, glacial streams, and rivers around Samdo, creating a serene environment ideal for peaceful walks. You will also find several small monasteries and mani walls (stone walls inscribed with prayers), reflecting the deep spiritual culture of the region.

Day 12: Samdo to Dharamashala (4480m). Walking 6:30 hours
The trek from Samdo to Dharamashala offers a unique blend of high-altitude landscapes and pristine beauty. As you make your way along the trail, you'll be treated to panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and expansive valleys. The path is adorned with juniper and birch forests, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Along the way, you'll encounter traditional Tibetan-style settlements and picturesque mani walls, which add a cultural touch to the journey. Day 13: Dharamashala to Bhimtang (3890m) via Larkya La pass (5167m). Walking 7:30 hours

The trek from Dharamashala to Bhimtang presents awe-inspiring scenery. As you make your way along the trail, you'll traverse high-altitude landscapes with sweeping views of the Himalayas. The path takes you across the Larkya La Pass, the highest point of the trek, offering stunning panoramic vistas of snow-capped peaks and rugged terrain. Day 14: Bhimtang to Tilje (3010m).  Walking 6 hours
The trek from Bhimtang to Tilje offers a variety of stunning landscapes. The trail provides breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and glacial rivers. You'll also encounter picturesque villages with traditional stone houses and terraced fields. Day 15: Trek to Dharapani then drive to Kathmandu by private Jeep. Walking 2:30 hours the driving 7:30 hours.
As you travel from Dharapani to Kathmandu by private Jeep, you'll experience a diverse range of stunning scenery. The journey begins with the picturesque landscapes of the Manaslu region, characterized by lush green valleys, terraced fields, and traditional stone houses. As you descend, the scenery gradually changes to dense forests and flowing rivers. The drive offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and distant snow-capped peaks. As you approach Kathmandu, you'll pass through charming rural villages and bustling towns, providing a captivating blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. This scenic drive is a perfect conclusion to your trekking adventure in the Manaslu region.

Day 16: In Kathmandu.

Day 17: The trip ends, our Airport Representative will drop you to the Kathmandu international airport for your final flight departure from Nepal. Driving 7.5 km – 10 to 15 minutes

Your trip concludes as our Airport Representative escorts you to Kathmandu International Airport for your final departure from Nepal. The drive covers 6 kilometers and takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
